Living in an Age of Fear

I recently had a continuing education session with my mentor Phillip on how fear shapes our culture today. It was deeply moving and helped me recognize not just the fears others carry—but my own as well.
Ahead of the session, Phillip shared an essay that explores both individual fear and the collective fear that shapes society in times of turmoil. One passage stood out:
“Living in a fear-based culture inevitably affects your state of mind and the decisions you make. As a citizen you may become more compliant, more willing to surrender your rights for vague promises of safety. As an employee you are less demanding, less willing to take risks. And in your personal life you are more security oriented, and thus less open to new possibilities––all because you see the future through the lens of fear.”
I highly recommend the essay which you can read here. Like most writing in this method, you’ll get the most benefit by reading this in a quiet moment of your day. I’d love to hear your thoughts when you have a chance and feel free to pass this on to anyone else that might benefit.
Warmly,
Sean
